See MeatBall:WikiMarkupStandardWorkingGroup for the new effort to bring a common WMS forward. Will end in a RFC and official registration of "text/wiki".

dbird: Are you planning to follow and participate in the WikiMarkupStandard? Read about it here: MeatBall:WikiMarkupStandard

Andy: I see that Mario has already added a comment to the page referenced so I guess he's watching it. I suggest that we adopt *NewMarkup from the standard when it exists and if someone contributes a formatting plugin that would be wonderful.

milky: Actually I even plan to write an I-D (a http://ietf.org/ "RFC") on a WikiMarkupStandard (currently there isn't one, only discussions on it). For ErfurtWiki it will then however take a little time to get full support for it (the WikiMarkupStandard will be different from our current ErfurtWiki:WikiMarkup in a few points).

More precisely, we will initially have a markup emulation plugin (which ErfurtWiki is quite good in) for the upcoming WikiMarkupStandard. Later we will have bultin support for it, and only emulate our older markup (wherever the differences are).

An initial draft will be posted on MeatBall:StandardWikiMarkup or MeatBall:TextWikiMimeType as soon as it's ready...

Btw, there is a *RelatedProject http://interwiki.sf.net/, where currently also some discussion on a WikiMarkupStandard happens (although the mailing list is more about XML-RPC and WebDAV and other backend-*WikiInferfaces).

And as complicated as it is to finally get a WikiMarkupStandard (it would be a miracle if only 50% of Wiki folks agreed on it), as simple it will be for ErfurtWiki to adopt it then...
