Forget it! ewiki is very focused on ISO Latin-1 charset and this cannot be changed easily. Also many current PHP versions (like the 4.1.2 here on SourceForge) wouldn't allow that, so we'd lock people out if we transited too early.
So, I'd say we better recommend PhpWiki to users, who really need Unicode/UTF-8 support.
With GetText being the declared new localization scheme, it should be easier to transit to UTF-8. Bringing the database backends and conversion tools in line will however be a huge undertaking (and eventually lead to incompatibilites). Therefore a *VersionFourBranch or *UnicodeBranch should be started in our CVS repository.
