The project name comes from what the software was originally intended for (just one personal project).
Erfurt is a (from most peoples view of things: small) city in Europe / Germany (population: 200K), and it is the city the current maintainer and author is from.
Due to its design (this wiki works more like a a "library"), this software could also be called EmbeddableWiki. The internal project name, btw, is ewiki - but please write that lowercase, as some years ago (now dead) there was another project on sourceforge called eWiki.
